Laura is a self-published author and the creator of the ‘Little Ivory Haus Self Publishing Course’; but most importantly, she is one of my closest friends. Her book, 'Lockdown Baby’ was a labour of love and her way of coping with the difficult times of having a baby during the pandemic, an experience both she and I shared with our 2nd born children in 2020. I watched her navigate the world of self-publishing; from finalising an illustrator and choosing a colour palette to that incredible moment when she released her book to the world and watching it turn into an overnight success that saw her whole life change. Little did I know, she would inspire and support me to transform my world in ways I had never imagined.
From being my IVF family to one of my best friends, to becoming authors.
Laura and my friendship started in 2017 when we joined an IVF Facegroup group for women who were due to have their miracle babies in 2018. The bond between IVF mums is strong! We shared the highs and lows throughout our pregnancy journey until our babies were safely born earthside. In 2019, we started another group for those going for another round of IVF. Laura, myself, and a few others were admins of it. We soon formed a close friendship and never looked back.
Laura has always believed that I had a story to share. She knew about my journey of discovering my and my family’s neurodivergence and understood the strong need I had to create change so my family could thrive. She also knew how much I loved to write. She was right!
It wasn’t until the week I had left my job that I finally decided to do Laura’s self-publishing course. My life was in absolute shambles as I was juggling so many of my kids’ therapy appointments, as well as navigating my own world as a newly diagnosed autistic ADHDer in need of support. My brain was a mess, and I needed to write about it.
The day I started Laura’s course the words poured out of me. 'When My Brain Is Messy' was born in a single afternoon. Every time I read it, I cried. I called a few close friends and read it to them. They too, got emotional. 50 days later, my book was officially published with a physical copy in my hands and my life changed from that day onwards.
